Throwback Thursday: USC 42, Ohio State 17 in 1973 Rose Bowl

The 1972 USC squad is considered one of the greatest teams in college football.

And, for three years in a row (1972-75), the Trojans met Ohio State in the Rose Bowl with national title implications on the line.

In the 1973 Rose Bowl, it was the Sam ‘Bam’ Cunningham show as the running back tallied four second-half touchdowns en route to a 42-17 USC victory.

Following the win, the Trojans were voted unanimously as the number one team in college football, the first time in the sport’s history

The attendance (106,869) at the Rose Bowl Stadium set a Rose Bowl Game record, which still stands.
