Even after being drafted by the New York Jets with the 3rd overall pick, Sam Darnold continued to say all the right things about each team that had a chance at snagging the elite quarterback.
Darnold reiterated his stance that while he is excited to be a Jet, any team that would have drafted him at the top of the board would have been a solid fit because “everyone in the top of the draft is going great things. They’re going to win in the next few years.”
Darnold also will be able to share the spotlight in New York with fellow top selection running back Saquon Barkley going to the Giants at No. 2. Barkley was quick to share with the media he felt the matchup between the top picks in the third week of the preseason will be one to watch out for, while Darnold just laughed it off and gave a polite response.
Darnold was one of four quarterbacks to be taken in the top 10, an NFL record, and is the highest USC player to be drafted since running back Reggie Bush was selected No. 2 overall in 2006.
