It seems that Malcolm Butler may be leaving the New England Patriots for the New Orleans Saints this coming season. The pieces are in place and all it needs now it the official announcement. The two teams have been trying to negotiate a deal for weeks and signs point to a new chapter for the CB.

If the two teams agree on a deal, Malcolm Butler could sign a first-round restricted tender. But that doesn’t immediately mean that he will leave the New England Patriots. The New Orleans Patriots would then offer Butler deal to which the Patriots have to option to match.

If the Patriots decide to allow Malcolm Butler to leave for the New Orleans Saints, they get to receive the Saints’ first round pick which is the 11th overall selection. Moreover, the deal will only work if the Saints sign Butler to a long term deal which they likely would. There may be a lot of steps for Butler to transfer to New Orleans but it seems imminent with the recent reports.

Fist off, according to All 22, the New Orleans Saints have made moves to free up cap space in preparation for Malcolm Butler. According to the report, the Saints have converted $5 million of roster bonus into signing bonus. This leads to them having $13.1 million in cap space.

Meanwhile, Malcolm Butler posted an image on Instagram that seems to signify his impending transfer to the New Orleans Saints. The image shows Butler, aboard a plane with a note saying “Nothing changed but the change.”

But for the New England Patriots, whatever decision Malcolm Butler makes, it wouldn’t be that much of a deal breaker. If Butler does transfer, the Patriots receive the 11th pick in the draft which they sorely need. But on the other hand, if Butler decides to stay, they a retain the services of a great CB.

Then again, looking at the signs, it seems imminent that Malcolm Butler will be heading to the New Orleans Saints. Stay tuned for more details
