The New England Patriots are looking to reload this offseason in a bid to repeat as champions. They’ve done their part in signing Brandin Cooks to a lucrative, long-term deal and have not traded Jimmy Garoppolo. The only problem they have now is Malcolm Butler who according to rumors, might be going elsewhere for the next season. But according to some reports, the New England Patriots may be holding on to their prized CB.

Based on an article on the NFL’s website, New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, his team has no intention of dealing Malcolm Butler. According to the owner, the Patriots have already given out an offer sheet to Butler to which he has the option to sign or not.

If Malcolm Butler refuses to sign the offer sheet, other teams could make an offer to the CB. The New England Patriots still have the option of matching the offer otherwise, they would have to let go of Malcolm Butler. The good new is that in exchange for the CB, the Patriots get a first round pick as a result of a first round tender placed on Butler’s contract.

In addition, Robert Kraft also mentioned that if possible, the New England Patriots would like to sign both Malcolm Butler and Darrelle Revis. Revis is the long-rumored replacement for Butler in case he leaves for another team. By signing both CBs, the Patriots will have a lot of options for the position with Brandin Cooks leading the pack.

For Malcolm Butler, he has a lot of options to consider for his next career move. He could play for another team with more money but will likely have a less chance of getting to the Super Bowl as compared to playing with the New England Patriots. One other alternative for Butler is to stay with the Patriots for this year and play on a restricted tender before hitting the market next season. That way, by joining the Patriots, the Butler will have a better chance at winning the title.

Then again, the only problem for the New England Patriots and Malcolm Butler is the money. Right now, the Patriots don’t have much to offer Butler due to the large contract of Cooks. Only Butler has the choice whether he chooses to stay or not.
