Marshawn Lynch announced his retirement in last year’s Super Bowl via Twitter but he’s been linked the Oakland Raiders. The latest NFL rumors have revealed the reason why “Beast Mode” wants to return to the league and play for his hometown team.

Adam Schefter and Josina Anderson of ESPN first reported that the Raiders are interested in acquiring Marshawn Lynch from the Seattle Seahawks. Lynch’s rights are still with Seattle until the 2018 season but they could waive or trade him to Oakland.

“Beast Mode” is set to earn $9 million this season and $7 million in 2018 with an additional $3 million bonus for making the roster. Lynch will turn 31 years old next month but NFL rumors suggest that he is considering coming out of retirement to play for the Raiders.

According to Peter King of The MMQB, the reason why Marshawn Lynch wants to play for the Raiders is because he wants to help his city. He noted that Lynch is looking to do things in Oakland and his foundation while also playing the game he loves. He also has a “Beast Mode” store in the city.

“He really wants to play for the Raiders. He also wants to do good things for his foundation in the area. This is a great chance to accomplish both things,” one source told King.

Marshawn Lynch was born and raised in Oakland and he was a four-sport star at Oakland Technical High School. He played three seasons for the California Golden Bears before getting drafted by the Buffalo Bills with the 12th overall selection in 2007.

The 30-year-old running back spent three and a half seasons in Buffalo before he was traded to the Seahawks in the middle of the 2010 NFL season. Marshawn Lynch became one of the best and most productive running backs in the league during his time in Seattle. He helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl XLVIII.
