The New England Patriots have been the most consistent team in the NFL for more than 10 years.  Tom Brady has been a big factor to the New England Patriots’ success.  But a lot of it has to do with the New England Patriots’ ability to get the best players to support Tom Brady.  Just how good the New England Patriots was proven during this last season’s Super Bowl.  The New England Patriots won Super Bowl LI even without their best playmaker in tight end Rob Gronkowski.  This off-season, the New England Patriots got even deeper with acquisitions of Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore.  Now imagine if the New England Patriots got the best cornerback in the NFL in Richard Sherman instead of Stephon Gilmore.  That almost became a reality.

Before the New England Patriots signed former Buffalo Bills cornerback Stephon Gilmore, the New England Patriots inquired about acquiring Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman via a trade, according to a report from CBS Sports.  According to Ian Rapoport of NFL News, other teams have also inquired about Richard Sherman aside from the New England Patriots.

It’s no surprise that a number of teams, including the New England Patriots, are interested in acquiring Richard Sherman.  Richard Sherman, 28, is considered to the best cornerback in the NFL right now.

During his entire six-year career in the NFL, Richard Sherman has not missed a single game.  Richard Sherman has also been voted three times to the First Team All-Pro.

As good as Richard Sherman is, it’s surprising that the Seattle Seahawks are even considering trading him.  Earlier this month, it was reported that the Seattle Seahawks would be willing to trade Richard Sherman for the right deal, via a report from CBS Sports.

Event though the New England Patriots didn’t get Richard Sherman, they still got the next best cornerback in Stephon Gilmore.  Stephon Gilmore signed a 5 year, $65 million contract earlier this month.
