The New York Knicks have been a disappointment. There’s no way around that and nothing could save their season. The signing of Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah have done nothing to restore the Knicks’ legacy. And it looks like franchise player Carmelo Anthony may be on the way out.

The Knicks have been the laughing stock of the NBA for quite a while now and their loyal fans are growing restless. The hiring of Phil Jackson has so far done one thing positive for the team which goes by the name of Porzingis. Meanwhile, Carmelo Anthony, the perennial face of the franchise is slowly but surely declining.

The decline in production has resulted in Carmelo Anthony taking on a reduced role for the Knicks. The benching was done by the Knicks to assess the potential of the younger players by giving them more playing time. It seems that the Knicks are ready to move on with Carmelo and start anew with the development of the young players.

However, for Carmelo Anthony, the reduced role made him question his role for the team. Restricting Anthony’s minutes is something new to him and may not be good for his long-term plans for the team. Clearly, Anthony is not the player he used to be. And at this age in his career, he should be playing for a contender and not with a team who is assessing their younger players. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him ask for a trade in the coming season.

However, the problem with trading Carmelo Anthony is his no-trade clause on his contract. This severely restricts the options for the Knicks as they can’t simply trade Anthony to any team. Only Carmelo has the power to rescind the clause and that may only happen if he gets traded to a team he likes.

One team that could definitely be on the radar for Carmelo Anthony would be the Cleveland Cavaliers. It has been known that Lebron James wants to play with his friends and form a super team. This could be the beginning of James’ dream.
