Paul George has made it clear that he is unhappy with the performance of the Indiana Pacers and he needs to see changes before he becomes a free agent in the summer of 2018. The latest rumors believe that the Los Angeles Lakers could try to acquire George this offseason.
The Pacers are currently in the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference but they could still miss the playoffs. The Heat are still one of the hottest teams in the league and the Bulls are gaining steam. If the Pacers indeed fail to make the postseason, it is safe to say that Paul George would want out of Indiana.
The 26-year-old superstar has expressed his disappointment on the Pacers regarding several things, per The Indianapolis Star. The Pacers are stuck in mediocrity since they were the number one seed in the 2013-14 NBA season. The current team has no chemistry and Paul George wants to win now.
Another factor for Paul George to consider is the trade rumors surround him at the deadline. He felt blindsided by the rumors and he recently spoke with team president Larry Bird, who is surely pressured to make a decision this offseason.
According to Matt Burke of Metro, Lakers president Magic Johnson could make his biggest move of his tenure by trading for Paul George. Magic is loaded with tradable assets like their 2017 first round pick and a handful of talents like Brandon Ingram, D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle.
Burke pointed out that the Lakers might offer their possible top-three pick along with one of their young players. If the Pacers decide to trade Paul George, they will build around Myles Turner. They could use the draft pick from the Lakers to select Markelle Fultz or Lonzo Ball while acquiring a player like Ingram.
Nevertheless, these are just purely speculative at the moment and nothing has been confirmed. However, the Pacers know that they are on borrowed time because Paul George can become a free agent. As for the Lakers, they also know that they have the best shot to sign “PG13” in the summer of 2018.
