Derrick Rose, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, underwent knee surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. According to the latest NBA rumors, the New York Knicks are open to re-signing Rose despite another knee surgery.
After playing 33 minutes and scoring 27 points last March 27, Derrick Rose felt discomfort in his left that caused him to miss the next two games. He underwent a series of tests and it was revealed that he suffered a torn meniscus in his surgically-repaired knee, per ESPN.
It was the same knee that suffered a torn ACL back in the 2012 playoffs and caused Rose to miss the entire 2012-13 season. Ten games into his first season back from the injury, he suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee and he was ruled out for the rest of the season.
In his first season with the Knicks, Derrick Rose played 64 games and he averaged 18.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists. He is set to become a free agent at the end of the season but he is open to re-signing with the Knicks.
Despite another knee surgery, it seems like the Knicks are also open to re-signing Derrick Rose. In an interview with Mike Vaccaro of the New York Post, Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek that they will take into consideration all the good things Rose has done in his first year in New York.
“I’m sure he’ll come back strong from it. He worked hard last year in the summer to get his body in good shape. I’m sure he’ll do that again. We’ll take a look at it and see if we can bring him back,” Hornacek said.
However, it should be noted that the Knicks have the chance to draft a point guard this summer, as well as sign one like Jrue Holiday. The Knicks are desperate to build improve next season and with another injury, it looks less likely that Derrick Rose will remain in New York.
