Derrick Rose will be a free agent after this current season and as he anticipates the offers that may come to him, he made clear of his intentions that he is not after the money at this point of his career. Pointing out that winning is all that he ever wanted (where New York Knicks failed to give him), the off-season will definitely be a busy one for the former number one pick.

In the story published by ESPN, the 6-foot-3 Rose explained his standards should he be offered by other teams to sign and play for them. “Not even thinking money. I’ve got more than enough money saved. If I stopped playing basketball now, I’ll be all right,” said Rose, who was signed by the Knicks at the start of the current season together with pal Joakim Noah.

The 28-year old guard out of University of Memphis also told the press in Utah that winning will be his priority and he already have saved enough money that he can used should he stop playing competitive basketball now. He kept himself in good shape playing at the Mecca, only missing 10 games for the 27-45 Knicks this season looking at the team’s stats on ESPN.

His statements, however, were a complete opposite of the news that surfaced two months ago per Ian Begley of ESPN. Based on the said article, sources said that the 7-year veteran will be seeking a max contract, most likely a 5-year $150 million deal.

Despite the announcement, he said that he will keep his options open. He mentioned that this summer will be his first time being a free agent and he isn’t familiar with how free agency works, based on reports from the NBA. “After the season, me, my agent, my brothers, family will have to talk about it,” answered Rose, before adding that he will have his agent, his family and his brothers to take care of the negotiations.
