Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers has the option to become a free agent this summer. Besides the Clippers, the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers are also among the potential destination for Griffin, who is in the prime of his career.

According to Kevin Ding of Bleacher Report, the Celtics and Lakers could battle it out for the signature of Blake Griffin in free agency. The Celtics are loaded with money, talent and assets, and they are just one All-Star away from being legitimate NBA title contenders.

On the other hand, the Lakers have the stay-at-home feel and they are loaded with money and talent. Staying in Los Angeles is a plus for Blake Griffin, who has several business ventures in the area. Other teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets can pursue him but they don’t have the appeal the Celtics and Lakers have in the summer.

But of course, Blake Griffin has indicated last year that he is not interested in leaving the Clippers. According to Basketball Insiders, the Clippers and Griffin are confident that they will be able to sign a long-term extension this summer.

Chris Paul, who is also set to become a free agent this summer, reportedly have verbally agreed to sign a $200 million extension. However, it does not guarantee Griffin’s loyalty since the Clippers are at a crossroads this season.

The Clippers might not have homecourt advantage in the playoffs and they are in danger of another first-round exit. Blake Griffin could look at other teams and decide that he wants to win. The Clippers, on the other hand, might want to rebuild from scratch.

The window for the Clippers seemed to have closed and they failed to reach the Western Conference Finals. Nevertheless, Blake Griffin is expected to become a free agent and make the offseason very interesting.

The Lakers are built to win again in a few years while the Celtics are built to win now. It will be interesting to see where Blake Griffin will eventually end up signing a max contract.
